Every automatic pistol is made with manufacturing tolerances. Some, even old Colt pistols, are at the extreme edge of allowable limits. While they may work reliably for now, they may be causing themselves internal damage. After a large number of rounds, the damage can become so extensive that it can ruin the gun. The most common problem is the pounding out of the locking lugs for the barrel to slide lock up. Another problem that can cause considerable excitement on the firing line is a failure causing the pistol to go full automatic. This problem can be caused by improperly hardened parts or a poorly executed trigger job. Other problems include a weakened extractor or an improperly timed firing pin safety. Of course, the springs are weakened by extensive shooting and that can also result in reduced reliability.
Our “tune up” package includes a replacement set of Wolf brand springs. We also inspect the pistol for unusual internal wear and damage, check the extractor tension, and check the fire control mechanism (trigger, sear, disconnector, hammer, grip safety, thumb safety and firing pin safety) for operation and safety. This is a labor intensive item, but we are offering at about our cost because we feel it is important.
This offering is also worth considering if you have purchased a “gun show special”. More than one pistol has found its way to a gun show table because of problems. If you have purchased one of these “good deals”, it is worthwhile to bring it in to have the springs replaced and the pistol thoroughly checked out. Even if it does have a problem, perhaps we can repair it at a reasonable cost before it is too late.
